This week I’m participating in a blogging challenge and that means every day for 7 days I’m going to post something on the blog related to a prompt in the challenge.
The first day it’s my job to answer 5 questions that help you understand who I am and why I’m here. Although I’ve been blogger here at Success Measured for over a year, I think this intro is long overdue and something I somewhat skipped in the early stages.
Looking back I think I’m happy I skipped it because I didn’t have a clear direction of where I saw this blog going or how I saw it fitting in with my multi-passionate lifestyle and career. Now I know more about my direction and I’m ready to share it with you. Anyway here goes…
1) Who am I?
My name is Galen Mooney and I am a self-taught web designer and creative entrepreneur. I have worked on my own now for almost 2 years and while it’s been a struggle at times, I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Both during and after college I worked 2 different corporate jobs that I thought I would really enjoy. It was exactly what I was looking for but something was still missing… I started consuming more and more content about this whole entrepreneurship thing and when I read about other people’s journeys I knew this was the path for me.
Although I never thought about it until recently, looking back at my childhood I was always an entrepreneur. I started tons of little business ventures like selling art to my neighbors, pet sitting, and always finding new ways I could add value to people’s lives and make a few bucks along the way.
Fun facts… I have been horseback riding for almost 15 years and I used to ride competitively at horse shows all over the North East.
I have a dog named Lyla who I’ve had since college. She brings so much joy into my life every day.
I have driven across the country 2 times when I moved out west right after college to take a job in Seattle. The east coast has always been my home and now I’m back here for at least a while until I figure out my next life adventure.
2) Why did I start blogging?
I started blogging to get my thoughts out on paper (figuratively) and share ideas and strategies with like-minded entrepreneurs. I know how much information overload I dealt with when starting my business and I want to help other people avoid this same pitfalls that I faced.
I like the idea of having a platform to share my voice and connect with others online. This blog is like my little home on the internet :)
3) Who is this blog for?
This blog is for creative entrepreneurs like myself who want to grow their business and build a brand that reflects their unique personality.
I hope this blog is a resource for you to learn the basic elements of good web design and branding while saving time and resources with creative tools and strategies that help you get where you want to be in your business.
My goal is to instill confidence and give you the tools you need to be successful.
4) What’s one thing I’ve been working on lately that I’m really proud of
I’m just finishing up a website I did for the Kura Project, a nonprofit that helps women in Northern Kenya stay in school and pursue an education. I truly believe in the mission of this organization and I am so glad to join the effort.
I’m also happy to hear that since the website launched they’ve seen a big increase in donations and support for the project.
5) What’s one message I hope people to take away from this blog
I hope that you (the reader) believe you can knock down any barriers to success that stand in the way of you reaching your goals and growing your business.
I want you to know that everything is figure-out-able and sometimes all it takes is a simple change in mind shift to solve even your biggest problems.
Thanks so much for reading and I hope this was a good introduction to what I want to accomplish here and what direction this blog is heading in the future.
I hope to see you on my email list so you get all extra goodies I don’t share here on the blog. See you tomorrow with another post!
Cheers,
Galen
